Scooping dog waste has been a law in New York City for years, but some residents in Williamsburg are now making the act an eco-friendly project.

East River State Park's dog park provides two cedar stations housing dog waste buckets, which are compost bins. Dog owners can scoop up the feces with park-provided scoopers or eco-friendly brown bags and dump into the bin.

Leslie Wright, of the state's Parks Department, says that not only is the waste program keeping plastic bags out of landfills, but it's also using canine waste to fertilize plants. She calls it a win-win situation.

East River is the only park in New York City that currently provides the fecal-friendly bins.
