Mayor: 50 soccer fields to be built across the city
Kids across the five boroughs will soon be able to hone their skills as 50 soccer fields are set to be built across the city.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, along with the New York City Football Club and U.S. Soccer Foundation, made the announcement Tuesday.
The $3 million commitment by the city, NYC Football Club, Adidas and the U.S. Soccer Foundation will bring soccer fields to underserved communities throughout the city.
Officials say eight soccer fields will be built within a year, with one of the first at Millbrook Playground in the Bronx.
The initiative also includes after-school mentoring programs for more than 10,000 city kids.
