Residents, members of the clergy and elected officials marched for peace in Crown Heights Tuesday after a week of gut-wrenching violence across the country.
Participants called it a march for unity between police departments and the black community.
They held a moment of silence for two black men killed by police last week, as well as the five Dallas police officers gunned down by a sniper in retaliation during a rally there.
Then the group marched from the 77th Precinct building, holding up signs that called for peace, justice and an end to hate.
Officials said communities and police departments need to respect one another while also saying authorities must acknowledge real grievances in the black community.
