A rally was held Wednesday in Flatbush to remember women killed by police officers.
Sandra Bland was found dead in a Texas jail cell last year after being pulled over for a minor traffic violation.
Stories like Bland's serve as a reminder of others such as Kyam Livingston, who died in police custody in Brooklyn nearly two years ago after the NYPD allegedly ignored her requests for medical attention.
Livingston's mother shared her pain during a Black Lives Matter protest organized by the Peoples Power Assembly. Those who gathered at the corner of Church Avenue and East 18th Street called for justice in the deaths.
Protesters at the rally said they hope the event raises awareness over the lives of women of color who died at the hands of police.
