Officials announce new BK ferry landing
Officials announced Wednesday that the Atlantic Basin in Red Hook would be a new landing for New York City's expanding ferry service plan.
"Residents told us loud and clear that this was the location that most suits their needs," says Maria Torres-Springer, of the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
Centrally located, the landing will serve 6,000 people, including families living in the nearby Red Hook Houses.
Starting next summer, riders can hop on a boat and take a 20-minute cruise to Wall Street for the same cost as a subway ride.
As of now, there are no free transfers from the ferry to subways or buses.
The city will also be adding another three ferry stops on the south Brooklyn route, as well as stops in Queens and Rockaway. The Bronx will begin service in 2018.
