City warns residents to keep cool during hot temps

New Yorkers visited parks and beaches Monday, even as the city warned residents to stay cool during a heat advisory.
The combination of heat and humidity made it feel about 95 degrees earlier in the day, according to experts. By late afternoon, rainfall cooled things down a bit.
Officials say senior citizens and children are at a higher risk for heat illness, as well as anyone who suffers from chronic medical problems, such as heart disease or breathing issues.
But children, parents and grandparents turned out to places like Marine Park to try and beat the heat. Kids played in the sprinklers as adults supervised from the shade.
And despite the high temperatures, News 12 found residents trying to get in some exercise. Some were biking and jogging in the morning along the Belt Parkway Promenade. Others were taking advantage of the smaller crowds to get in some fishing.
Families looking to find some relief in an air conditioned environment can call 311 to find a public cooling center. More than 500 will be open on Tuesday.
