Gowanus residents tell city: Replant our trees
Gowanus residents raised complaints Thursday after workers chopped down trees in the neighborhood.
Neighbors on Carroll Street say the block was lined with trees that provided a canopy shielding them from the summer heat in shade.
City officials say workers removed 10 trees between Third and Fourth avenues to make room for equipment needed for repairs to a damaged sewage pipe. The officials say another 10 will come down before the project's completion
The city says it will replant the trees where it can, possibly amounting to twice as many trees than were removed, by the summer of 2018.
