Governor asks 'Pokemon Go' to ban sex offenders
New York's governor is pushing to block registered sex offenders from using the popular "Pokemon Go" app, which sends players to real-world locations to try and obtain virtual characters.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo sent a letter Monday to Niantic, the company behind the popular app. He asked that it stop registered sex offenders from playing the game by "technologically barring their use."
"The state has taken action to prohibit sex offenders from using this game, but we need your assistance to make certain that sex offenders will not continue to use 'Pokemon Go,'" the governor wrote. "Working together, we can ensure that this danger today does not escalate into a tragedy tomorrow."
