Mayor Bloomberg's plan to take over private bus service hits roadblock

Mayor Michael Bloomberg's (R?NY) plan to take over private bus service in Brooklyn hit a roadblock Thursday. A state Supreme Court judge ordered the city to halt negotiations with Transit Alliance, the company representing Jamaica Bus Lines, Triboro Bus Lines, Green Bus Line and Command Bus Line. The judge says if the bus lines are taken over by the MTA, about 200 non-union employees may lose benefits, including their pension plans. The 400,000 commuters who take the buses daily will not be impacted by the injunction for now. Lawyers for city officials say they plan to appeal the judge?s decision.
