Two Brownsville children shot while playing outside

Two children were shot early Saturday morning in Brownsville.

A 10-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were playing in the front yard on Newport Street when an unknown gunman opened fire. Police say they do not believe the children were the intended targets. However, neighbors say the shootings come as no surprise. Residents of the area say street shootings are becoming a regular occurrence.

The boy and girl, who residents say are unrelated, were taken to Brookdale Hospital and are listed in stable condition.
