Coney Island woman dies after jumping 17 floors during fire

A Coney Island woman died Monday after jumping 17 floors from her burning apartment.

Fire officials say they received a call Monday afternoon notifying them of the fire at building three in the Luna Park apartment complex, but apparently by that point the woman had already jumped. Investigators are searching for the cause of the fire and say it appears to have started in the bedroom. Officials also say the woman was home alone and her door was locked from the inside.

Investigators are working with the police department to see if the woman jumped for any reason other than to escape the fire.
