Some members of the Brooklyn Jewish community oppose Gaza pullout
An Israeli rabbi was in Crown Heights Monday encouraging American Jews to oppose Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank.
Soldiers began serving notices to Israeli settlers telling them they must move out of the area by Wednesday or they will be forced out. Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon says the move, although painful, is part of necessary peace efforts with the Palestinian Authority. Israeli settlers began occupying the strip in 1967 after the Six-Day War.
Adversaries say they oppose the plan because Gaza is part of the traditional Jewish homeland. Opponents also say the evacuation will be a victory for terrorist and will lead to more attacks on Israel from Palestinian militant groups.
