Congressman Anthony Weiner wants ferry service for Brooklyn

Congressman Anthony Weiner is pushing for another option that would have Brooklyn commuters sailing into Manhattan and Queens.

Weiner, a mayoral candidate, says he has secured $15 million in federal funding for a local Brooklyn ferry service. However, the project needs an additional $3.25 million to be allocated from the city in order to go forward. Mayor Michael Bloomberg (R-NY) refuses to allot this amount. The Department of Transportation supports the mayor?s stance saying there is no research indicating a need for this service.

Weiner is proposing the ferry service to run out of Red Hook, Marine Park, Sheepshead Bay and Coney Island.
