Brooklyn shops must display policies, or the customer is right
The Department of Consumer Affairs wants businesses, especially small industries, to know they must display signs alerting customers to their store policies.
According to the law, stores must visually display whether they accept exchanges and credit card limitations. The department says if stores do not abide by this policy then the saying holds true that the customer is always right.
The city says many consumers are unaware they have rights when shopping. Prices should be clearly marked, buyers should get a receipt for purchases greater than $20 and customers are entitled to a full reimbursement if the store does not display its refund policy.
Although city inspectors make regular visits to monitor businesses, the city is asking the public to notify them when an establishment is not complying with the law.
