Community of Brownsville celebrates opening of more affordable housing units

The community of Brownsville celebrated the opening of new affordable housing units Thursday.

The new two-family townhouses are named after community activist and former Community Board 16 Chairman James A. Bowens. During the celebration, community leaders commemorated Bowens? hard work and contributions. Many at the ceremony say they are excited about the affordable housing because it will bring new money and homeowners to the area.

The new townhouses were financed by Citibank, Housing Partnership Development, New York State Affordable Housing Corporation, Council Member Boyland and the borough president.
