Toddler recovering at Kings County Hospital after falling from a two-story window

A 14-month-old boy is recovering at Kings County Hospital Friday after falling from a two-story window.

The toddler, who suffered injuries to his right arm and leg, fell Thursday from a window at 131 Jefferson Avenue. The boy's mother says the incident happened while she was in the bathroom. However, neighbors say they saw it coming, claiming kids are always hanging out of the window.

City law does require landlords to install window guards in units where children 11 years of age or younger are living. After the incident, Department of Health officials found that window guards throughout the building were not properly installed. In addition, they say the apartment where the toddler fell had one window without a guard and others with guards in danger of coming off.
