Brooklyn home day care workers organizing in an effort to start a union
Thousands of home day care workers in the Brooklyn are coming together in an effort to form a union.
The workers say they are being paid pennies and have no health insurance. So far, almost 3,000 workers have signed a petition to join the union. A total of 5,000 signatures is needed before the petition can be presented to the City Council.
In addition to being underpaid, the workers feel they are being taken advantage of by the agencies that hire them. They believe a union would help them get reasonable pay and benefits.
