The family of a little boy stabbed to death in a public housing complex has filed a lawsuit against NYCHA and the city for $281 million. 

PJ Avitto was killed in an elevator at the Boulevard Houses in East New York back on June 1, allegedly at the hands of 27-year-old Daniel Saint Hubert. 

The 6-year-old's parents say they blame the housing authority for his death, citing carelessness and recklessness, among other reasons. There were no security cameras in the building at the time, despite money having already been allocated to install them. 

The family's attorney said in a statement, "NYCHA and City of New York are the owners and the landlords of the Boulevard Houses. They owed 6-year-old PJ Avitto the same security and protection that Donald Trump would provide to the residents of his buildings."

News 12 reached out to NYCHA about the lawsuit, but it would not comment on pending litigation. 

Avitto's friend, 7-year-old Mikayla Capers, was also stabbed, but survived the attack. Hubert is meanwhile awaiting trial for murder after pleading not guilty.
