East NY residents rally against homeless shelters

Dozens of East New York residents rallied yesterday against a growing number of homeless shelters in their neighborhood.

The protesters gathered in front of Samaritan Village, a 200-bed women's shelter that recently opened on Van Siclen Avenue.

They argued that there are more than 10 shelters in the area, but no other resources that people need, such as permanent housing and community centers.
