Shake Shack turns Downtown BK into sweet spot
New York City's popular burger chain Shake Shack opened the doors of its new Fulton Street location today, bringing its popular burgers and milkshakes to Brooklyn.
A line went out the door on the restaurant's first day in Downtown Brooklyn, and locals say they're happy to have a Shake Shack in Brooklyn, so they don't have to travel to Manhattan for its next closest location.
Michael Burke, of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, says the arrival of Shake Shack represents the change seen in Downtown Brooklyn since the neighborhood was rezoned in 2004. Burke says the rezoning brought new businesses and thousands of new residents to the area.
The partnership says it expects 10 new restaurants to open in Downtown Brooklyn over the next year.
