One day after a woman was crushed to death in a similar elevator accident, the Brooklyn district attorney?s office announced it will be pressing charges against an elevator repairman for a 2010 elevator accident at SUNY Downstate Hospital that left a woman badly injured.

On Christmas Day last year, Deborah Jordon had just boarded the elevator when it started going up, dragging her arm and leg floor by floor. Jordon suffered severe damage to her arm and leg in the accident. Prosecutors say that by bypassing the elevator's safety mechanism, repairman James Jordan is responsible for the accident and putting the riders in danger.

Jordan has been charged with first-degree assault and reckless endangerment, charges that carry a maximum of five years in prison. A hospital representative says SUNY Downstate no longer uses the contractor the repairman worked for.
