Brooklyn LIRR riders can commute in silence
Brooklyn Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) commuters now have the option to ride in silence with the launch of a new quiet car pilot program yesterday.
Select morning and evening rush hour trains coming into Atlantic Terminal from Far Rockaway now have a designated car prohibiting loud conversations and noisy electronics.
Officials say the program is voluntary and it will be up to fellow commuters to help enforce the silence by handing out "shh" cards when they think it's necessary.
