BK martial arts teacher worries about friends in Japan

A martial arts teacher in Brooklyn with ties to Japan says he is worried and fears for the lives of his friends who live in some of the hardest-hit areas of the country.

Shihan Raanan, who owns a mixed martial arts and Jujitsu studio in Mill Basin, says he got all of his training while living in Sendai, which was ravaged by the earthquake and tsunami.

Raanan says he opened his studio back in 1997 and hasn't returned to Japan since. He says he has nothing but fond memories of the area and plans to visit again once the radiation levels go down.
