Crossing concerns still plague P.S. 277

Crossing concerns still plague P.S. 277 on Gerritsen Avenue, where parents say a lack of traffic lights makes getting their children to school treacherous.

Although the Department of Transportation approved the installation of a flashing beacon there last August, the light still has not been installed.

Several weeks ago, school zone signs were put in to warn drivers to slow down. Parents say it's not enough, however.

"They speed down here like it's a speedway," said parent Ann Soto. "I've been here all my life. I've seen people get hit by cars here."

State Sen. Marty Golden (R-Brooklyn) says he has been working with the DOT to get the light installed within the next few weeks.
