Pedestrian killed in sanitation truck accident

Police say a man was killed after he was hit by a sanitation truck near the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Broadway early this morning.

Police have not yet released the identity of the victim. Witnesses say the man was crossing the street on crutches when he was hit.

Friends of the victim at the scene say he used crutches because he suffered from back problems. They say he frequented the methadone clinic across the street from where he was hit.

Police say the sanitation truck involved is owned by a private company, Yankel's Demolition and Rubbish Removal.

Officials say no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
