St. Patrick's Day marked with book giveaway
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the New York City Council and the Irish Arts Center sponsored a free book distribution event today.
Member of the arts center handed out the free literature outside subway stations. All of the books were written by Irish or Irish-American authors.
"We're handing out free books today because we want to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in a unique and exciting way, celebrating Irish culture and literature," says Jen Browne, of the Irish Arts Center.
About 10,000 books were distributed throughout the city.
