Students, staff rally against school budget cuts

Students and staff from schools around the city protested proposed budget cuts today on the steps of Borough Hall.

Participants said they were concerned about Gov. Andrew Cuomo's (D-N.Y.) cuts to education. Schools cuts are part of the 2.7 percent reduction proposed in Cuomo's $133 billion budget.

Those rallying said an extension of an income tax surcharge, set to expire under Cuomo, could bring in nearly $5 million for education.

The budget is due April 1.
