Canadian fugitive charged in BK for city subway plot

(AP) - A Canadian fugitive has been charged in thefoiled al-Qaida plot against New York City subways.

Ferid Imam was named in a federal indictment unsealed Tuesday inBrooklyn.

Meanwhile, charges against him also surfaced in Canada. Policethere allege Iman and Maiwand Yar traveled to Peshawar, Pakistan,in 2007 for terrorist training. Police allege the men planned toparticipate in the insurgency against NATO forces in Afghanistan.

The New York indictment says Imam was part of a September 2008conspiracy to attack the subways with suicide bombers. Coloradoairport driver Najibullah Zazi andanother man have pleaded guilty. A third man is awaiting trial.

News reports in Canada say Imam vanished from Winnipeg in 2007and is suspected of hiding out in Pakistan.
