Greenpoint residents fight to keep homeless shelter out of area

Residents in Greenpoint say they don't want a homeless shelter in their neighborhood.

The Bowery Residents Committee has proposed putting a men's homeless shelter in a building at 400 McGuinness Boulevard. Another organization had proposed putting a shelter there last December but with serious outcry from the community that project was dumped.

Residents say with a single-occupancy hotel and a home for rehabilitated drug addicts nearby, the area is a haven for crime.
