Fire officials investigating massive blaze in Sunset Park

Fire officials are beginning to look into the cause of a fire that ripped through a Sunset Park apartment building and left more than two dozen residents hospitalized.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m. in the building on 61st Street and 5th Avenue and took over 160 firefighters two hours to contain.

In all, 28 residents and 12 firefighters sustained injuries in the fire.

Fire officials have yet to determine the exact cause, but say they believe the fire started on the first floor.

The Red Cross says it will be on hand to assist those left homeless as soon as they are released from the hospital.
