Police say the bus, heading from Mohegan Sun Casino in Conn. to Chinatown in Manhattan, tipped over and slid into an overhead sign support pole, slicing the bus in half and causing many of the injuries.

The bus company, Worldwide Tour, which is based in Brooklyn, says it is cooperating in the investigation.

The driver of the bus says that he swerved to avoid a tractor-trailer, causing the bus to tip over and slide into the pole. However witnesses say that the bus was moving at a high rate of speed and operating erratically.

Police say they have located the truck in Farmingdale, N.Y. and secured it until an investigation can be completed.
