Police: Correction officer fatally shoots man in barbershop fight

Police say they are investigating the fatal shooting of an elderly man by an off-duty corrections officer during a dispute at a Bensonhurst barbershop.

Investigators say off-duty correction officer Michael Mininni was at a barber shop on 1706 Bath Ave. at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when his neighbor, CarmeloCalabro, walked in. Investigators are looking into how the dispute began, but say the two have had an ongoing fight.

The corrections officer was transported to Lutheran Hospital with injuries to his arm. He was not shot.

A Department of Corrections spokesman says the officer is authorized to carry a gun while off-duty.

Police say the two men have had a dispute for years.
