Suit: Get rid of dangerous bike lane in Prospect Park

Two groups in Prospect Park West have filed a lawsuit asking for the removal of a bike lane they call hazardous.

Last year, the Department of Transportation removed a lane of traffic and created a two-way bike lane. A parking lane was also created as a barrier to the bike path.

Opposers of the redesign say it is an eyesore for the neighborhood and creates a hazard for pedestrians. However, cyclists say the new design makes the roadway much safer and slows drivers down.

The local community board plans to hold a hearing Thursday night to discuss the bike lane.
