Parents protest possible teacher layoffs in Bed-Stuy
Parents of students at the Brighter Choice Community School in Bed-Stuy came out to protest the city's plan to lay off teachers today.
Under the current layoff plans, the last teachers hired will be the first teachers laid off. At the Brighter Choice Community School, that means 11 of the 15 teachers would be laid off.
Parents say that the system unfairly targets new and developing schools and that changing the rules to allow more experienced teachers to be laid off doesn't help either. Instead, they want greater funding for education to allow teachers to at least retain their jobs.
