IHOP offers free pancakes for charity

IHOP restaurants are offering a short stack of their famous pancakes free of charge today asking customers to donate to charity instead.

The breakfast food chain is celebrating National Pancake Day by giving each customer free short stacks of buttermilk pancakes between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. today.

That's how National Pancake Day has worked since IHOP launched it in 2006. And since then, the chain has raised $5.35 million for its charities, $2.1 million last year alone.

How many buttermilk pancakes did it cost them to reach that goal? More than 10.1 million, the company reports on its website.

Customers are urged to donate to the Children's Miracle Network and other local charities.
