Mom arraigned for throwing newborn down trash chute

The mother accused of putting her newborn in a plastic bag and tossing him down a trash chute was arraigned last night.

Laquasia Wright, 18, has been charged with attempted murder, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.

Police found the newborn boy in a pile of trash outside the home after a maintenance worker heard the baby's cries coming from thecompactor in the Walt Whitman Houses in Brooklyn on Sundaymorning.

The baby was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where he remains instable condition.
