Petition calls for protective-status extension for Haitians

Flatbush residents have taken up a petition to extend the protective status for Haitian immigrants who moved to Brooklyn after a devastating earthquake more than a year ago.

Residents are demanding that President Barack Obama extend the temporary protective status (TPS) that is set to expire in July for those affected by the earthquake.

Councilman Matteiu Eugene says he is organizing a petition to send to the White House asking for the TPS extension. The measure has already received overwhelming support from the City Council.
