Police investigate vandalism at Jewish cemetery
Police are investigating a widespread act of vandalism at a Jewish cemetery in Brooklyn over the weekend.
According to authorities, more than 150 tombstones at Washington Cemetery on Bay Parkway were destroyed. They say some of the headstones were chopped in half or thrown to the ground across the 100-acre site.
Officials say they are looking into the possibility that the vandalism is gang-related or a hate crime. They say many of the gravestones were nearly two centuries old, with some marking the resting place of Holocaust survivors.
City Councilman David Greenfield is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrests and convictions of those responsible.
