Residents call for traffic light at dangerous intersection

Gowanus residents are calling for a traffic light and other measures to increase safety at what they say is a dangerous intersection.

According to residents, several accidents have occurred at 2nd Avenue and 12th Street. In the latest incident, a 62-year-old woman was struck and killed Tuesday by an oil truck attempting to make a turn.

Resident say Department of Sanitation trucks and vans often use the road. They say they are either double parked or illegally parked, which makes it more dangerous for pedestrians.

An investigator for the Department of Transportation says he will be requesting a traffic light be installed.
