New school plans cause stir in Kensington
Parents in the community of Kensington are speaking out about plans to build a new public school in their neighborhood.
The city's Department of Education says it wants to build an intermediate school on Coney Island Avenue at a spot that's currently a vacant lot. Parents who live in the area say zoning issues would prevent their children from being able to attend the proposed school.
The spot is technically within District 15, but would be zoned to serve families from District 22.
Education officials say they considered four other locations for the school before proposing the Coney Island Avenue spot.
