Brooklyn mother files lawsuit against Long Island hospital

A Brooklyn mother has filed a lawsuit against a Long Island hospital claiming she lost her legs following a routine procedure.

According to Stacey Gallette, she went to Winthrop University Hospital for a routine gynecological surgery when doctors punctured an intestine. She says that mistake led to an infection, blood poisoning, gangrene and the amputation of both of her legs.

Gallette's father says doctors at the hospital didn't tell them what had happened during surgery for about five weeks.

The mother of two says she has also lost hearing in her left ear as a result of the injuries.

In a statement, the hospital says, "As a matter of hospital policy, we don't comment on pending litigation."
