Park Slope shopkeeper hailed as hero

A Park Slope store owner is being praised for his heroic actions when a would-be robber entered his store.

A security camera shows the shopkeeper at New Star Tobacco on Fifth Avenue, Mohammed Esa, fought back against a knife-wielding robber by brazenly hitting him with a plastic wastebasket until he left.

"He's the man. He's a hero. I think he's a good guy," says Daniel Sanabria, a regular customer of the store.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
