Shopkeeper whacks knife-wielding would-be robber

A Brooklyn shopkeeper bravely stood up to a knife-wielding robber who tried to take money from his cash register.

The security video shows the robber walking into New Star Tobacco on Fifth Ave. in Park Slope around 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 3.

The shopkeeper, Mohammed Esa, fought back by brazenly hitting the thug with a plastic wastebasket until he left.

Workers say they are proud of Esa's actions. Some say they want to keep a weapon in the store for self-defense.
