P.S. 197 to hold fundraiser to replace supplies

Teachers and students at P.S. 197 in Midwood are holding a car wash fundraiser tomorrow to raise money to replace supplies that were ruined during a bedbug extermination.

A teachers union representative says the pesticide used to kill the bedbugs was all over some books and equipment in the school and had to be thrown away.

A Department of Education spokesperson says there were 109 confirmed cases of bedbugs in the borough last month.

School officials at P.S. 197 say they submitted a request to the schools chancellor for funding to help replace the destroyed books. They say no decision has been made yet.
