Markowitz honors hair salon cop for courage

The off-duty officer who successfully thwarted a would-be robber at a Bedford-Stuyvesant hair salon this weekend was honored today for her efforts.

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Inspector William Aubry and elected officials held a ceremony to honor Detective Ferris Jones.

Jones was getting her hair done at Sabine's Beauty Salon yesterday when an armed robber barged in. Jones immediately identified herself as a police officer. Police say the suspect, Winston Cox, fired at Jones four times, but missed. Jones fired back and injured Cox.

Jones was promoted yesterday from an officer to detective for her efforts. She is a 20-year veteran of the police force.
