City Council considers bill against 'rogue' ATMs
Business owners in Brooklyn could face hefty fines for ATM machines near their stores.
The City Council is considering a bill which would regulate the placement and appearance of sidewalk ATMs. Lawmakers say a lack of regulation has led to the widespread proliferation of so-called "rogue" ATMs that encroach on city sidewalks, obstruct public passageways and attract graffiti and other vandalism.
Several Brooklyn businesses received $100 tickets last week because their ATMs were more than three feet away from their building.
