NYPD officer, suspect shot in East New York

Police say a plainclothes officer exchangedgunfire with a suspect at a Brooklyn building and was shot twice inthe leg, but was expected to survive. The suspect also was shot andwounded.

The 29-year-old officer and the 17-year-old suspect were taken to separatehospitals, and were listed in stable condition on Sunday night.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says Officer Richard Ramirez is expectedto make a full recovery. He met with the officer and his wife atKings County Hospital.

Authorities did not identify the suspect.

Police say they are continuing to investigate the shooting,which happened about 8 p.m.

Sources tell News 12 Brooklyn that the suspect, Elijah Foster-Bay, took off running after officers tried to stop him and ran into 454 Bradford St.

When Foster-Bay got to the building's top floor and couldn't open the door, sources say he turned and fired at the three officers in pursuit, hitting Ramirez twice.
