Power restored to dozens after transformer fire

A transformer fire broke out in East New York Tuesday morning, temporarily leaving dozens of residents without power and causing major traffic delays.

Con Edison officials say salt on the ground following this past weekend's snowstorm got into two manholes on Pennsylvania Avenue, igniting the flames. The fire then made its way through the wires up the pole and into a transformer.

Repair crews that arrived on the scene were able to quickly shut off the power, but it still took firefighters more than an hour to put out the flames.
