Dentist killed in Bay Ridge hit-and-run

A prominent Bay Ridge dentist was struck by two cars and killed while crossing 4th Avenue Thursday night.

Police say 21-year-old Karissa McFaline, the driver who initially hit Dr. Harry Lewner, fled the scene but later turned herself in.

McFaline was charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death. The driver of the second car wasn't charged.

Lewner's longtime secretary, Joanna Leask, says the 58-year-old Lewner lived for his wife, two sons and grandchildren. She also says he cared deeply about his patients.
