Manhattan Bridge makeover set for 2010
The Manhattan Bridge is scheduled to undergo a major renovation that will affect drivers, subway riders and cyclists for the next three years.
More than 600 suspension cables will be replaced during the final phase of the ongoing construction project. Subway service on the D, Q, N and B lines could be affected. Road closures are expected.
The bike path on the Manhattan Bridge will be shut down for eight months due to construction, prompting suggestions that cyclists use the pedestrian pathway.
Construction on the bridge is set to begin in 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2013.
